Calgary creatives lose sleep for charity
Local designers pull out all the stops at 24-hour design marathon
Calgary, Alberta, April 2, 2008 - On Friday, April 4, professionals and students from Calgary’s creative community will participate in the GDC Design-A-Thon 2008, a 24-hour creative design marathon. The event links local creative professionals with not-for-profit groups to provide no-cost marketing services for projects that support their fundraising initiatives and marketing programs.
The marathon will begin at 9:00 am on Friday at Mount Royal College. Design teams will assemble to develop visual communication solutions throughout the day and night, and will present their finished concepts to the not-for-profit clients at the conclusion of the marathon. Some of Calgary’s top creative directors head up the teams comprised of professional and student creatives. Not including the contribution of volunteers and sponsors, the value of services to be donated to charities in Calgary will exceed $70,000.
GDC Design-A-Thon 2008 is produced in Calgary by the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, Alberta South Chapter (GDC) and is proudly sponsored by Calgary’s own Veer. Media is invited to drop in any time between 9:00 am Friday April 4 and 9:30 am Saturday April 5. Presentations of the results of the 24-hour marathon to the charity representatives will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday April 5.
