Help : Searching for Products
Basic Search
A search field appears on most pages of the site. This is the fastest way to find products that Veer sells.
To search for products:
- Enter a search term in the text field, located in the search bar at the top of the page. Use descriptive keywords such as “dog” or “briefcase.” Multiple terms may be used to narrow your search criteria. Search terms can also include product numbers. See Using Keywords.
- Click the checkboxes for product categories you wish to search, such as photography or type. The most common categories are included by default.
- Click “Search.”

Expanding & Collapsing Microstock Results
Every search you perform will produce two sets of results, presented in a split screen. By default, RM & RF images are displayed in expanded view on the left. Microstock images from Veer Marketplace are displayed in a narrow column on the right. To expand the microstock results, click “expand results” at the top of the dark grey column. The RF & RM results will collapse to a thin, light grey bar. To restore the RF & RM windows to its default, click “Expand RF & RM images”.
Searching Within Results Using Additional Search Terms
Every search you perform will produce the “Refine your search” column, located to the left of your search results.
To search within the current results:
To search within the results of your previous search, add a term to the search box and click "Search” again.
For example, if your original search was “dog,” you could add the keywords “poodle” or “-cat” (to exclude images that include both dogs and cats).

Price Range
Refine your search results by using the price filters. Select checkboxes next to any or all of Way Cheap (from $1), Cheap ($9 - $100), Spendy ($49 - $350), and Worth It ($49 - $655), then click “Apply”. Note that if you use the price filters, your search will not include typefaces or rights-managed images.
Image Properties
In this panel, you can filter by color, license model, orientation, and resolution.
Click “Choose” to expand the orientation and resolution options. Then, simply click the option(s) you want.
Image Content and People
The “Image Content” and “People” panels function the same way as the “Image Properties” panel. “Image Content” filters let you refine your search by time of day, context, and whether the subject is looking at or away from the camera.
In the “People” panel, you can refine your search by specifying subject criteria such as number of subjects, age range, and ethnicity.
Browsing Main Search Results
Search results include several links beneath the image thumbnail.
Disc
This link appears when the corresponding image or typeface is also available on a disc collection. Click the link to view details and the other images included on the disc collection. The information will be displayed in a new window. However, if a new window does not open after clicking the “Disc” link, you might have the pop-up blocker turned on in your browser.
The “Disc” link is only visible when using a modern web browser as listed in our site requirements.
Download comp
Click this link to download a full-size comp (which is larger than the thumbnail image). You do not need to right-click. The image will be saved to the default download location specified in your browser.
You must be registered and signed in to download comp images.

Using Keywords
All products on the site have keywords associated with them. Keywords can describe the subject matter (e.g., man, dog), concept or mood (connect, happy), technique (blur, pan, zoom, watercolor), and other attributes such as central color, designer, type style, etc.
If you get too many results, narrow your search using “Search within results,” or add keywords to your search. (By default, your search will only return images matching all of the criteria. See Setting Preferences to change this.) For example:
- “dog man” will return all images with these keywords, say, 500 results.
- “dog man walk” will return all images with these keywords, say, 100 results from the previous 500.
Note: This is the same as clicking the “Search within results” and entering “walk” after your original search of “dog man.”
You may use the following Boolean operators at any time:
These will temporarily override your search method under “Your Site Preferences” in your account. For example, “tiger or lion,” “tiger not jungle,” or “tiger -jungle.”

Keywording is subjective. Try several terms to describe the product youre looking for.

No Results
If a search returns no results, it usually means that your search terms or other criteria are too specific. If this is the case, you can try the following to expand the search results:
Repeat the search using “or”
Clicking “Repeat the search” will search again using your original terms, matching any one of those terms. By default, searches use “and,” returning products that contain all of your search terms. That is, all of the terms must be associated with each individual product. An “or” search returns products that contain any one of the terms.

Ignored Terms
If your search includes a term that is not in the keyword database or is misspelled, the term will be ignored. For example, if you search for “dog coller,” you will see products keyworded “dog,” and a message that “coller” was ignored.
Product No Longer Available
If your search includes an invalid or discontinued product number, you will receive an error message telling you the product number is no longer available. If you require information regarding a product that is no longer available, please contact customer service.
