Help : Using Lightboxes in Shuttleboard Mode

Shuttleboard™ mode is another way of looking at any of your lightboxes on the Veer web site. In Shuttleboard mode, you can move, resize, crop, and layer images in a large workspace. You can also set type samples, changing the words and the size, and position them anywhere in the work area.

Shuttleboard is a handy way to envision rough layouts, combinations of images, and to compare and contrast typefaces. You can share your lightbox with other users who are registered on the Veer web site, and they may make changes to your lightbox using the Shuttleboard functions.

See how Shuttleboard works (Flash required)

There is no “Save” button in Shuttleboard mode – the changes you make are made immediately to your lightbox on the Veer server. If you want to save a version of your lightbox and continue to make changes, use the “Copy” command. See “Using the control bar.”

If you have a one-button mouse on the Mac OS, control-click wherever you are instructed to right-click.

Note: Changes you make to your lightbox in Shuttleboard mode (such as removing items or changing the lightbox name) will also be reflected when you view your lightbox in standard mode. The two modes share data.

Note: Merchandise products (e.g., t-shirts and books) are not shown in Shuttleboard mode.

Setting Your Lightbox Mode

You must be registered and signed in to use lightboxes on the Veer site. Add products you are interested in to any lightbox, from search results or product detail pages.

  1. Click “Lightbox” in the navigation bar on the Veer web site. Your active lightbox appears in the window. (If you have not yet added products to a lightbox, the lightbox may be empty.)
  2. Click “Shuttleboard mode” or “Standard mode.” This setting will be maintained until you sign out of your Veer account, or change your default lightbox mode in your site preferences.

    See: Setting Preferences

The lightbox appears in the mode you specified.

Use the drop-down menu in the control bar (at the top left of the Shuttleboard) to make any of your other lightboxes active.

Using The Control Bar

A small control bar is at the top left of the Shuttleboard. This offers many functions for managing and sharing your lightboxes.

Shuttleboard - Lightbox Picker

The name of your active lightbox appears in the title field. Click the field or the arrow to the right to scroll through and select a different lightbox. This appears in your Shuttleboard, and becomes the active lightbox.

Note: When you click “Add to lightbox” next to any product on the Veer site, they will be added to your currently active lightbox.

Copy...

Lets you create a duplicate of your active lightbox. You will be prompted to name the new lightbox. The duplicate becomes your active lightbox.

Note: Use the “Copy” command if you want to save your lightbox in its existing state. Think of it as a “Save as” option, in case you want to save the current state of your images, type, and layout.

Delete...

Deletes the active lightbox. You will be prompted for confirmation.

E-mail...

Lets you send an e-mail message to anyone, containing a link to your lightbox in Shuttleboard view. View Entire Workspace

Shuttleboard - View Entire Workspace

The Shuttleboard workspace is quite large, allowing you to move some elements to one side while you work with others. Click the “View the entire workspace” icon to see the entire workspace. Click anywhere in the workspace to center your view on that point.

Note: you may also use the scrollbars at the right and bottom of the shuttleboard to view different parts of the workspace.

Sticky Notes

Shuttleboard - Sticky Note

You may add “sticky notes” to your lightbox for your own reference. Others who view your lightbox may view the notes also. Click the sticky note icon (the page with a corner bent), and type a message in the highlighted field.

You may then move the note. Right-click a note for other options: you may hide all notes, change the color of a note, move or copy the note to another lightbox, or remove the note from your lightbox. Click the text of any note to edit the text.

To show sticky notes after you have hidden them, Right-click anywhere on the workspace and select “Show sticky notes.”

Notes you create in Shuttleboard view will not be shown in the regular view.

Activity Indicator

Shuttleboard - Activity Indicator

The activity indicator flashes when your changes are being saved to the server. Clicking this icon does nothing. Wait until this indicator has stopped flashing before closing the Shuttleboard browser window or going to another web page, or your changes may not be saved.

Using Shuttleboard Functions

By default, elements in your lightbox appear in a grid.

Moving elements

Click and drag any image or type sample to move it around the workspace. You can select multiple elements by clicking and dragging your cursor until it creates an orange box over any part of the elements you wish to select. You can also hold down the shift key to select multiple elements. Orange borders appear around the elements you have selected.

Resizing images

Click any image. Position your mouse pointer over its orange border. A vertical part and a horizontal part of the border are highlighted. Click and drag the highlighted border to resize the image.

Cropping images

Right-click an image and select “Crop.” Drag your pointer over the part of the image you want to retain (you can click in the cropped region and reposition the crop), or click and drag the borders of the image. Click “OK” to crop the image. To further crop a cropped image, right-click the image and select “Crop Again.”

To remove the crop from an image and return an image to its original size, right-click the image and select “Revert to Original.”

Seeing details

You can get more details about elements in your lightbox. Right-click and select “See Details.” Product information and links are shown. Click the links to see the product information pages.

For images that are cropped, details of the crop are shown.

Layering elements

You can move images and type around the workspace, and position them under and over each other. To change an element’s position in a layer, right-click and select “Bring to Top,” “Bring Forward,” “Send Backward,” or “Send to Bottom.”

Note: using the “Send Backward” and “Bring Forward” commands on an individual element may not have an apparent effect, because the layer position of each element is calculated relative to every other element on the Shuttleboard.

Copying and Moving elements

You can copy and move elements to another lightbox. Right-click any element and select “Copy to Lightbox.” Select the lightbox to which you want to copy the element. Select multiple elements by clicking and dragging your cursor until it creates an orange box over the elements you wish to select. You can also hold down the shift key to select multiple elements. If you select “Move to Lightbox,” the element in your existing lightbox will be removed.

Adding elements to your shopping cart

To add an element to your cart, right-click the element (or any element in a multiple selection) and select “Add to cart.” To purchase, click “Cart” in the site navigation bar.

Removing elements from your lightbox

To remove an element, right-click the element (or any element in a multiple selection) and select “Remove from Lightbox.”

Editing type samples

Typefaces that you have added to your lightbox appear below the grid of images. The type samples appear as “Type text here,” or the text you have entered as your default Flont text.

See: Setting Preferences

You can change the words and sizes of type samples in your lightbox. Right-click a type sample and select “Edit Type.” Enter the words you want as your sample (up to 40 characters), choose a type size, and (for typefaces with multiple weights) choose a font. Click OK to see the changes.

Note: you can select multiple type samples (by dragging your cursor over them), then right-click to edit the words and typeface size. This is very useful for comparing typefaces.
