Creative Catalyst: Design For Change Competition

We asked you to design a piece for an issue that means something to you. Could be a charity or cause, global or local, but always with a social theme. The winner receives a £2000 donation for their selected organisation as well as Euro-wide publicity for themselves, a Computer Arts double-page feature and 2000 Veer Credits to use for their next creative projects. We had a fabulous response with well over 100 entries coming from all over the world. Fantastic work!

And the winner is...

We’re delighted to announce that Barton Damer has won first prize! He receives a £2000 donation for Malaria No More, a charity committed to ending suffering and death caused by malaria. He also wins a double-page Computer Arts feature, his design displayed at high-profile sites in London and Berlin as well as 2000 Veer Credits to use for his latest creative projects.

Here was my thought process behind the concept: At first glance I want it to look like the continent of Africa. Next I want you to notice a beautiful African Queen. Then I want you to notice that there are a lot of disturbing things about this “Africa” - malaria being a big one. So you have this tension of a beautiful African queen, but on further observation you notice some of the disturbing elements that make up the artwork.

These artists will also have their works displayed alongside the winner and all receive 1000 Veer Credits to spend on classic and exclusive fonts from £3.18 and exceptional vectors and images starting at 53p to make their next designs look brighter and say it even bolder.

Competition is open to persons who are: (i) a legal resident and citizen of the fifty United States (including the District of Columbia), Canada (excluding Quebec), the United Kingdom or Germany; (ii) are at least 18 years of age; (iii) be a new or existing registrant of Veer; and (iv) submit an entry that meets the Submission Requirements, as described in the “How to Participate” Section in the Official Rules.
