A curious kit from Jason Mark Jones
Inspired by a real-life encounter between a spraying skunk and a
defenceless designer, Skunkling was born out of the
Design Your Own Alphabet Contest, hosted by Design*Sponge and
sponsored by Veer.
Design*Sponge invited entrants to submit their ideal
26-character alphabet, in some cases digitally rendered, in others
hand-drawn. After facing a field of challengers, and besting them
all in the popular vote, Jason Mark Jones hit upon
the idea to fully develop this basic character set into a playful,
imaginative new font, his first, with all the exploration and
problem-solving that entails-resolving extended language support,
accents, diacritics, currencies ligatures and more.
Eminently suitable for children's books, illustrations, or
cards, I am greatly looking forward to seeing Skunkling in the wild, and am pleased to
welcome Jason to the community of type designers.
